I am the farthest thing from a gun snob, having realized one can find practical and functional firearms and accessories without going "Gucci" and spending extravagant amounts of money on really fancy gear
In fact, I would rather have solid, functional gear over gear that is fancy and known for brand recognition.
But I am also of the mindset of "Buy once, cry once." And for that matter, I've always looked upon polymer AR-15 lowers with a little bit of disdane.
When building or customizing an AR-15 Rifle, every component counts.
The lower receiver is particularly crucial as it houses the fire control group and the magazine well and provides the structural integrity necessary for handling operational stresses.
Thus, when a polymer AR lower fell in my lap from Rattlesnake Tactical, I was a little dubious about it.
Damn, if I didn't fall in love with it, though!
The Rattlesnake Tactical RT15 Polymer Complete Lower Receiver is a standout option for enthusiasts looking to build a new, lightweight rifle or upgrade their current setup.
In this review, we’ll delve into the features, benefits, and overall performance of this product available at Ammunition Depot and show you how I built a fun and kind of unique range toy from my Rattlesnake Tactical RT15.
Overview of the RT15 Polymer Complete Lower Receiver
The Rattlesnake Tactical RT15 Polymer Complete Lower Receiver is designed for durability, performance, and affordability.
Crafted from a high-strength polymer, this lower receiver is both lightweight and robust, capable of withstanding the rigors of extensive use whether in tactical environments or at the shooting range.

- Ease of Use: With all parts pre-installed, this lower receiver is ideal for both novice builders and experienced enthusiasts who appreciate convenience and efficiency in their building projects.
Performance and Field Testing
Field tests of the RT15 Polymer Complete Lower Receiver show that it performs admirably under various conditions.
The trigger action is crisp and consistent, and the material holds up well against typical field stresses, including dirt, moisture, and mechanical impact.
Compatibility with different uppers and magazines was seamless, underscoring its versatility and reliability.
Personalizing the RT15 for a Dedicated .22 LR Build
One of the great perks of working for an FFL is the unique opportunities it presents, such as easily acquiring specific parts for personal projects.
I had the chance to have my RT15 transferred to me as just a receiver from my boss—without the standard six-position stock—perfect for a custom build.
I decided to convert this RT15 into a dedicated .22 LR firearm, utilizing the CMMG .22 LR Conversion Kit, which conveniently doesn't require a buffer tube.
To kick off this build, I ordered a bare upper receiver, a 7.5" barrel with a pistol-length gas system (though typically, a 1/7 twist might not be ideal for stabilizing lighter .22 LR projectiles), and a 7" M-Lok handguard.
I also added an ejection port dust cover kit and a forward assist kit.
While not necessary for a .22 LR, these components allow for the flexibility to switch to a 5.56 BCG if I ever decide to repurpose the upper for my SBR (short barrel rifle).
For the assembly, I used various parts I already had on hand, which helped keep costs down.
This included a random muzzle brake, Amend2 pistol grip, Magpul MBUIS, an EOTech 512, and a charging handle—all previously tucked away in my home office in a box from previous projects.
Leveraging the fact that the CMMG .22 LR setup doesn’t require a traditional buffer tube, I integrated an inexpensive airsoft side-folder adapter into the build.
I repurposed the buffer tube that came with the RT15 lower, adding a Shockwave Technologies Blade Stealth pistol brace (also in my box of random gun parts) to complete the setup.
This project not only tailored the RT15 to my preferences for a lightweight .22 LR plinker but also enhanced my enjoyment and satisfaction in creating something uniquely mine.
